Reducing Our Carbon Footprint


How can you reduce your carbon footprint? How about taking your next road trip in a snazzy new Zipcar hybrid?

Fuel-efficient travel is just one way Dickinsonians demonstrate their commitment to sustainable living. This commitment took center stage during a Sept. 15 awareness-raising event on Britton Plaza.

The event was organized by Dickinson's climate-change task force. Composed of Dickinson students, staff, faculty and administrators and vetted by various campus organizations, group works to give Dickinsonians the skills to achieve climate neutrality on campus and to help effect positive change in society.

  •  Substituting reusable water bottles for disposable plastic bottles can significantly reduce one's carbon footprint over time.

  • Zipcar representatives were on hand to answer students' questions about the vehicle. On-campus Dickinsonians can reserve the college's fuel-efficient vehicles at any time via the Web or a mobile device. Low hourly and daily rates cover a tank of gas, insurance fees and up to 180 miles' use per day.

  • College and Zipcar representatives were available to answer questions during the event. Dickinson had purchased Zipcars in the summer of 2009. The Zipcars reduce the number of vehicles on campus and promote fuel-efficient travel.
