Stephanie Balmer has served since 2009 as vice president for enrollment, marketing and communications and dean of admissions. In this position, she oversees admissions, financial aid, marketing and communications, institutional research and athletics. Balmer joined Dickinson in 2008 as dean of admissions and financial aid. Prior to that, she served as associate vice president for enrollment and dean of admissions at Agnes Scott College in metropolitan Atlanta. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Murray State University, a master's degree in finance and marketing from Mercer University's Stetson School of Business and Economics and a certificate from the Institute for Educational Management at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University.

Joyce Bylander

Joyce Bylander has served since 2007 as special assistant to the president for institutional and diversity initiatives. In this role, she is responsible for helping to create, monitor and maintain a campus culture supportive of diversity. She also coordinates the college's partnership programs that seek to increase access and representation of urban students, first-generation students and students of color at Dickinson. Bylander previously held the positions of associate provost for academic campus life (2004 to 2007), dean of students (2000 to 2004) and associate dean of students (1998 to 2000) at the college. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and social service from Cleveland State University and a master of public administration degree from the University of South Carolina.

Karen Neely Faryniak, a Dickinson alumna, began her duties in the Office of the President in August 2010. As chief of staff and secretary of the college, she serves as the main liaison to the Board of Trustees and oversees the operation of the Office of the President. Having worked at the college since 1986, Faryniak has served in a number of roles, including those in alumni relations, major gifts, reunion giving and annual giving. She most recently served as the associate vice president for enrollment and communications, where she oversaw media relations, publications, Dickinson Magazine, the college's Web presence, photography and videography. She graduated from Dickinson with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in French.

Steve Hietsch joined Dickinson in early 2012 from the Borough of Carlisle, where he served as borough manager. Hietsch has 20 years of experience managing finances, operations, projects and facilities in both the public and non-profit sectors, as well as higher education environments. Prior to his service with Carlisle Borough, he held several leadership positions at Harrisburg Area Community College including executive assistant to the president and executive director of the Shumaker Public Safety Training Center. Hietsch holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in public administration, both from The Pennsylvania State University.

As dean of diversity and student development and assistant to the president, Norm Jones provides strategic leadership and direction associated with advancing the college's student-centered ambitions for diversity. In addition, he coordinates focused efforts on academic enrichment and leadership development for men of color and oversees the on-campus dimension of Dickinson's Community College Partnership Initiative. Jones also serves as the college's assistant Title IX officer. Jones, who joined Dickinson in 2001, previously served as director of student development and as assistant dean and associate dean of students. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from Morehouse College and a master of public administration and Ph.D. in workforce education and development from Pennsylvania State University.

Melissa Keebler has served since 2009 as assistant chief of staff and assistant secretary of the college. In this position, she coordinates college and community relations, oversees Commencement and Convocation and provides research support for government-related initiatives and the Board of Trustees. Prior to joining Dickinson, she worked for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, where she held various positions, including research analyst and, more recently, executive director of the Allegheny County delegation. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy from Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.

Robert Renaud joined Dickinson College in 2001 as director of library services and assumed his current position as vice president and chief information officer with the 2004 merger of the college's library and information technology divisions. Before his arrival at Dickinson, Renaud held positions in information services at Connecticut College, the University of Toronto, McGill University, the research branch of the Toronto Public Library and the University of Arizona. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from Vassar College and a master of library science degree from the University of Toronto. He also completed the Frye Leadership Institute at Emory University and the Institute for Educational Management at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. Renaud's related experience includes work in technical standards organizations, EDUCAUSE and consulting engagements.

Dana Scaduto joined Dickinson as general counsel in 2002. Previously, she was in private practice in Harrisburg, Pa., where she chaired her firm's education law practice and represented several central Pennsylvania private colleges, including Dickinson. Scaduto is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Cumberland County bar associations. She is an active member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and will take over as the organization's president in June 2012. She holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a law degree from the Indiana University School of Law.

Kenneth Shultes, a Dickinson alumnus, has served as the college's associate vice president for campus operations since 2005 and as director of facilities management since 1995. In these positions, he oversees all of the college's auxiliary programs, including facilities management, dining services, the bookstore, the children's center, and conferences and special events. He also manages college property/insurance liability and the acquisition of properties. Shultes served as Dickinson's interim vice president for campus operations from June 2009 to February 2011. He graduated from Dickinson in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in political science, and in 2009 he completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

April Vari, a Dickinson alumna, joined the college in 2006 as dean of students and was elevated to vice president for student development in 2009. In this role, she is responsible for providing leadership to the Division of Student Development, which encompasses campus life (residence life, housing, orientation, student activities), public safety, the health center, counseling center, religious life, community services, student conduct, the Women's Center, diversity initiatives and the Career Center. Prior to joining Dickinson, Vari spent 18 years at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., the last six as dean of student development. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Dickinson, a master of education in college student personnel administration from the University of Maryland and a doctor of education in leadership studies and educational administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

John Weis, whose career in human resource management spans more than 30 years, was appointed Dickinson's first vice president for human resource services in 2005. Prior to his arrival at Dickinson, he held senior-level HR positions at Tulsa Community College, Florida Atlantic University, the University of Texas at Arlington, the University of the Pacific and, most recently, Texas Christian University, where he served as associate vice chancellor for human resources. Weis holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Tulsa and a master's degree in management and supervision, with a concentration in personnel administration in higher education, from Central Michigan University.

Neil B. Weissman

Neil Weissman has served since 1998 as dean of the college and since 2002 as provost. He joined Dickinson in 1975 as an instructor in history and went on to rise through the ranks of assistant, associate and full professor. He has served as chair of the Department of History; coordinator of the Russian and Soviet Area Studies, International Studies and East Asian Studies programs; director of the Clarke Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Contemporary Issues; and project director for international education. Weissman received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude as valedictorian from Colgate University and holds master's and doctoral degrees in Russian history from Princeton University. He is a published scholar in the field of Russian and Soviet history, working on issues of government, policing and deviance.

Carolyn Yeager

Carolyn Yeager has served since 2004 as associate vice president for development and director of leadership giving. She assumed the additional role of interim vice president for college advancement in October 2011. During her tenure at Dickinson, which dates back to 1997, Yeager has engaged in all facets of fundraising operations, including leadership responsibilities for the annual fund, major gifts and planned giving, as well as supporting external marketing and communications and alumni programming. Her background includes experience in campaign planning and execution, including the successful attainment of Dickinson’s $150 million “First in America: Fulfilling Our Destiny” campaign. Yeager holds a bachelor's degree in English and sociology from Sweet Briar College in Virginia and advanced training in gift planning.
