Alumni in the News - May 2008
Doctor Featured in Magazine

Ben Wilson

Dr. Kevin Johnson '83 was featured in the May 2008 issue of Black Enterprise magazine. Johnson was profiled in the article "America's Leading Doctors" and also appeared on the cover of the magazine.

Black Enterprise, which produced similar lists in 1988 and 2001, described the doctors featured in the article as "the best and brightest in the medical profession." An editor's introduction noted that the magazine "placed a special emphasis on identifying innovators who have produced medical breakthroughs, engaged in groundbreaking procedures, and spearheaded radical research across specialties."

The roster includes "140 African American physicians and surgeons located in various parts of the country and running practices in a range of specialties." In addition to appearing on the list, Johnson was one of 11 doctors profiled in more detail.

Johnson is associate professor and vice chair of biomedical informatics and associate professor of pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The profile noted his work applying technology to medical care by developing clinical information systems.

A biology major and Hufstader Award recipient at Dickinson, Johnson went on to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He served as a member of Dickinson's Alumni Council from 1994-2000.
