It was day four of the new academic year. Students had settled into their rooms, attended Convocation and started classes. Then came the fun part: getting involved.
That process began with the 2012 Fall Activities Night. Led by students, the Aug. 30 event showcased many of the more than 100 student clubs and organizations on campus, offering new and returning students a chance to connect with friends with like interests and discover new hobbies and passions too.
Students could sign up to join clubs in community service, mass media, sports, languages and cultures, religion and spirituality, the sciences, humanities, arts and performing arts and a wide range of special-interest groups, such as paintball, outdoors expeditions, social justice, sustainability, fly-fishing, environmentalism, gaming and Japanese animation, to name just a few.
"It's a good way to boost membership and get the word out," said Matthew Hillsberg '13, a political-science major who is president of the Dickinson College Keystones.
"Definitely, there were a lot of good booths, a lot of good clubs," said Brad Seltzer '15, who signed up to join Dickinson's radio station, WDCV, Students for Social Action, M.O.R.E. (Men Overcoming Restrictive Expectations) and the Kosher Cooking Club. "I want to get really involved this year."
