Much Ado About Nothing
Weddings, waggery and wit frame the Mermaid Players’ production of Much Ado About Nothing. The Shakespearean comedy opens tonight (Oct. 28).
In the play, Beatrice (Sydney Moffat ’14), Benedick (Sam Neagley ’14), Hero (Alyssa Young ’14) and Claudio (Fred Schlick ’14) take a decidedly nonlinear journey to “happily ever after.” Claudio and Hero make wedding plans without actually speaking directly with each other, and misunderstandings quickly arise. Beatrice and Benedick are quick with witty insults and innuendoes, but slow to warm up to romance. The production also presents a parallel story about four modern lovers’ equally awkward—and equally hilarious—quests for love.
Much Ado will be presented at 8 p.m. in Mathers Theatre (Holland Union Building) on Oct. 28, 29 and 31 and on Nov. 1. There will be no showing on Sun., Oct. 30. General admission is $5; students with ID pay $3. Tickets are available at the box office; you also may buy them online.
