Where would you like to make a difference?
The Dickinson College Parents Fund provides a dependable source of annual financial support for Dickinson . It provides income for student scholarships, laboratory equipment, library books, facilities maintenance, faculty salaries and other operating expenses. Contributions to the Parents Fund help make possible the outstanding educational opportunities that are part of your child's Dickinson experience, and give Dickinson a critical edge in providing the best in undergraduate education.
What does the Parents Fund support?
Every dollar given to the Parents Fund supports the exceptional education that is available to all students at Dickinson . Gifts go directly to current needs on campus. So the impact of each gift is immediate. Students are helped through increased financial aid and for academic, student and residential-life programs.
It is no secret that tuition does not cover the complete cost of a Dickinson education. In fact, last year tuition only covered 78 percent of each student's overall expense. Tuition, room and board fees are subsidized for all students regardless of financial aid. The college counts on gifts from the endowment and parents, alumni and friends to make up this 'tuition gap' of over $13,000 per year.
Who gives to the Parents Fund?
Last year more than 1,700 parents participated in the fund. The total contributed to the Parents Fund exceeded $375,000.
Does each gift truly make a difference?
Absolutely. Because the Parents Fund is a collection of hundreds of gifts, every gift counts. Last year, more than 70 percent of the gifts from current parents were $250 or less. So gifts of all sizes are welcomed and encouraged.
How does the fund work?
Throughout the academic year, all parents are invited, through mailings from the college and phone calls from students and Parent Fund Committee volunteers, to make a gift to the Parents Fund.
What is The John Dickinson Society?
The John Dickinson Society is the college's premiere donor group. Gifts of $2,500 or more entitle donors to be honored as members of this leadership giving society.

The Parents Fund Committee
Dickinson 's Parents Fund provides a dependable source of annual financial support. Specifically, the fund provides income for student scholarships and financial aid, laboratory equipment, library books, facilities maintenance, faculty salaries and other operating expenses. Contributions to the Parents Fund help make possible the outstanding educational opportunities that are part of the Dickinson experience and give Dickinson a critical edge in providing the best in undergraduate education. This annual fund-raising effort runs from July 1 to June 30.
The purpose and mission of the Parents Fund Committee is to build relationships with parents that lead to increased interest in financially supporting the college. The work of the committee results in increased financial support from a parent base that understands and identifies with the needs of the college. Volunteers are themselves donors who serve as advocates of the college.
In addition to building a greater affinity for Dickinson and increasing support, these parent volunteers also help engage others in the life of the college. For more information, call Jean Bednarski, Director of Parent Giving at: (717) 245-1081.
