Campaign Events in London

First in America has officially gone global. On the weekend of April 18, 2008, approximately 70 alumni, students, parents, trustees and friends of Dickinson College gathered in London for the capital campaign’s first events outside of the United States.

The two-day celebration kicked off Friday evening with a panel discussion on U.S.-British relations. It continued Saturday with an intimate dinner hosted by Thomas Kalaris ’76 and Karen Welty Kalaris ’77 P’11 in London’s historic Spencer House. Spencer House, which is regarded as a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture, was built for the first Earl of Spencer in the mid 1700s and is a short distance from Buckingham Palace. One of London's few remaining eighteenth-century private palaces, the building has preserved the grandeur prized by England's aristocracy at the time of Dickinson's founding.
