Zatae Longsdorff Center  for Women:
Mission Statement

The Zatae Longsdorff Center for Women of Dickinson College is a feminist organization grounded in an ideology that supports the strength of sisterhood, the value of women's diversity, and the need to progressively educate the campus community by challenging the patriarchal prescriptions of our society. We are comprised of a Women's Center Board (elected student members), active members and all those who support women's issues in this community. The Board will represent the general Women's Center membership and assume administrative duties while maintaining an egalitarian style of leadership.

Our house serves not only as a resource center (library, periodicals, journals) and a place for weekly discussions, but also as a neutral ground for student/faculty/staff interaction. The house also provides a safe and comfortable environment on campus in which women can feel confident that their ideas and sense of who they are will be heard and respected.

Our desire to educate the community about women's issues is evident in our sponsorship of weekly discussions, speakers, and events such as Rape Awareness Week and Women's History Week. We will conteract the resistance to and fear of feminist ideals by fostering an inclusive environment in which issues pertinent to women's lives today are being discussed. Our focus on education also serves to encourage women to recognize their strengths and assert control over their own lives.
