Bluegrass on the Grass Festival
The 13th annual Bluegrass on the Grass Festival, featuring Steep Canyon Rangers, will be held on the steps of Bosler Hall. The Steep Canyon Rangers band was named the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006. Steep Canyon Rangers – Graham Sharp (banjo, lead vocals), Woody Platt (guitar), Charles R. Humphrey III (bass), Mike Guggino (mandolin) and Nicky Sanders (fiddle) – will perform songs from their latest album, “Lovin’ Pretty Women.” Other bands scheduled to perform are the Dismembered Tennesseans, the Dixie Bee-Liners, the Chicken Chokers and KC Groves and Riley Baugus. Each band is scheduled to perform twice during the day: Dixie Bee-Liners (1 p.m. and 5 p.m.), KC Groves & Riley Baugus (1:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.), Dismembered Tennesseans (2:35 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.), Chicken Chokers (3:25 p.m. and 7:25 p.m.) and Steep Canyon Rangers (4:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.). Bring your lawn chair. Festival foods will be provided by the college’s Dining Services, Amy’s Thai Restaurant and ice cream and drinks by the Upper Frankford Fire Company.

Buzz Jones Big Band & Ice Cream Social
Bring lawn chairs or blankets. If the weather is inclement, the event will be held in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter (ATS) Auditorium on West Louther Street. Founded as a rehearsal group in 1979 for musicians interested in preserving and advancing progressive big-band jazz, the Buzz Jones Big Band performs classics from the great American songbook, swing standards by Count Basie and Duke Ellington, blues of all genres, Latin jazz and fusion. The 16-member band is composed of music educators, regional jazz players and former members of the Buddy Rich and Glenn Miller orchestras. The group has performed in concerts with Tony Bennett, Bob Mintzer and The U.S. Navy Commodores and has served as backup musicians for The Temptations and The Four Tops. The band has appeared around the region and toured Europe several times with performances in several countries as well as at the Montreux and North Sea International Jazz festivals.
