Frequently Asked Questions about Dickinson Works
How will I be contacted by the students or alumni?
You can let us know your preferred mode of contact. Students and
alumni can reach you via phone, e-mail or by letter, and at your
home or business address. You let us know and we'll make sure the
database contains only the information you prefer.
How often can I expect a contact?
That's a tricky question. In general, you can probably expect two
or three contacts a year. However, if you work for a popular employer
(say, Disney World), in a popular field (such as consulting), or
you're in a popular geographic location (such as DC) there's a chance
you may receive more contacts. On the other hand, if you're in a
more non-traditional field or live in a more remote geographic area,
you may not hear from students only occasionally.
In any case, if you have concerns or problems with the amount of
contact you're receiving (or not receiving) please let us know right
away, and we'll take corrective action.
What if a student asks me for a job? I don't have any
jobs to offer.
First and foremost, Dickinson Works is a networking/relationship
tool, not a job placement center. We advise students and alumni
who use Dickinson Works not to ask for a job. However, if you are
asked, we suggest you consider it a "teaching moment"
and let the individual know that you are eager to assist them in
their job search, but that the most valuable assistance you can
provide is information and suggestions for their search. You may
want to advise them on their networking skills and help them develop
better questions to ask the next person they speak with.
