Emergency Room (ER) visits will not be covered if the visit is for non-emergent care and has not been authorized by a physician or Primary Care Provider (PCP). Employees participating in the college's medical insurance with HealthAssurance are reminded that a physician's referral is required for an ER visit to be covered for medical treatment that is not considered an emergency. If a member wants services over the weekend or late at night, and the PCP is not authorizing a visit to the ER, members may go to an Urgent Care Center.
To locate a participating urgent care center, members may visit the Health America/HealthAssurance website and perform a provider search for their area or county. Members visiting the website should select the "Plan Members" option and then click on "Locate a Provider" in the left sidebar area, followed by clicking on "Find a Provider" to complete a provider search. For additional information about Urgent Care Centers, please review the Urgent Care Center brochure.
