An innovative form of digital commentary created at Dickinson using Mediawiki, the platform of Wikipedia, was recently launched: http://wiki.dickinson.edu/index.php/Caesar_Gallic_War
Overseen by Prof. Francese, created in the summer of 2010 by Brendan Boston (`11), and further revised by Alice Ettling (`12) this fall, the site presents selections from Caesar's Gallic War with commentary, maps, audio files, running vocabulary lists for each chapter, and other resources and digital enhancements such as links to Google maps, grammatical aids, and bibliography. The selections correspond to the portions of Caesar to be added to the Advanced Placement Latin Syllabus for 2012-2013. The site will serve as a constantly updatable, free textbook for AP Latin students and teachers, as well as a resource for other Latin Students.
The Caesar site is the most fully developed of a series of Wikimedia sites currently being used in the department, as a way of delivering information more closely tailored to the needs of our classes than is possible with existing textbooks.
