Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster David Kim returns to Dickinson College in a special concert

David Kim, concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra, returns to Dickinson as the guest concertmaster and leader in an unconducted all-Mozart concert at Dickinson on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Rubendall Recital Hall, Weiss Center for the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public and it crowns a three-day residency during which Mr. Kim works with Dickinson students, alumni and faculty.

Featured soloist will be pianist Jennifer Blyth, associate professor of music. The Dickinson Orchestra for this special project includes students, alumni, faculty and community musicians. The program features Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” Symphony No. 25 and Piano Concerto No. 24.

David Kim, a graduate of The Juilliard School, is the Benjamin Rush Concertmaster Chair of The Philadelphia Orchestra, where he appears as a soloist each season.

Don’t Miss the Annual Music Audition Night! - 8/28/12

All Musicians: Don't Miss the Annual  "Music Audition Night!"

This annual event is only held once at the beginning of each academic year.

When: Tuesday, Aug 28th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. sharp!

Where: Weiss Center for the Arts, Rubendall Recital Hall

What: Auditions for all Dickinson College Co-Curricular Ensembles are held at this one event:

  • Choir
  • Collegium (Chamber choir)
  • Jazz Ensemble
  • Orchestra
  • DICE (Dickinson Improvisation and Collaboration Ensemble)
  • Chamber Music
  • Auditions for the biennial musical production, “The Spitfire Grill” a joint production between the departments of Music and Theatre and Dance.

Included is a brief Information Session re:

  • Ensemble rehearsal schedules, Music Lessons, Scholarships for Lessons, Music Lockers, Instrument rental, Music Dept. Classes, and the Music Major/Minor.

Audition Repertory: Students may bring their own short piece to play or sing, or vocalists may choose from select repertory provided at the audition. (An accompanist will be provided for vocal auditions.) Students are advised to present a piece that demonstrates their musical abilities and should be prepared to sight-read a short excerpt or to play scales.

FOOD: Free pizza and soda will be served before the auditions.

CCTV Keqing Liu and Sinfonietta Polonia Concert Broadcast

Orchestra Sinfonietta Polonia, established in 2004 by conductor Cheung Chau and Dickinson's Associate Professor in violin, Blanka Bednarz, has served as a unique "study abroad" program to several of Dickinson's students over the years. Dickinson Music Faculty - David Glasgow - CD Release Event

The musical group Three Twelve, featuring Dickinson music faculty David Glasgow, will perform a concert of the music from their new CD, Something Begun, this weekend at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg, PA this Saturday (February 18, 2012) at 4:00 PM.  David Glasgow composed eleven new songs for the album.  Dickinson students will join the group for the performance as part of the backing choir.

Musicologist Receives Teaching Award

Amy L. Wlodarski, associate professor of music at Dickinson College, received the Distinguished Teaching Award during pre-Commencement ceremonies held recently. The award, which recognizes outstanding teaching, is the highest honor given to a Dickinson faculty member.
