Ezequiel Gleichgerrcht ’08 Ezequiel Gleichgerrcht ’08’s research has been published in top scientific journals such as Nature, Brain and Social Neuroscience. He’s presented more than 100 posters at international conferences. He is an associate editor for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, serves as a science producer for a new TV show and teaches at Favaloro University in Buenos Aires.
And he hasn’t even finished medical school yet.
A native Argentinean and Global Campus Scholar, Gleichgerrcht discovered his love for research as an undergraduate. “When I came to Dickinson, I wanted to major in biochemistry and French. I loved science, and I loved language.” he says. “[After] taking different courses, I realized that what I really loved was learning about how we acquire language and the biology of it.” He decided instead to double major in biology and neuroscience.
Now a fourth-year medical student at the University of Buenos Aires, Gleichgerrcht conducts research at the Institute of Cognitive Neurology in Buenos Aires. He focuses on “social cognition, which refers to all those higher-cognitive processes that we typically associate with being human, such as decision-making, moral judgment, empathy, inferring other people’s feelings and intentions,” he explains.
After he completes his residency, he plans to specialize in cognitive neurology, he says, “thus fulfilling my ideal professional tripod—clinical work, teaching and research.”
