CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

RESEARCH on WOMEN and/or GENDER by STUDENTS
Annual Symposium Thursday, April 14, 2011, 6-9 p.m.
Stern Great Room

Students who have done research on women and gender are invited to submit abstracts of their research for participation in the annual symposium for Research on Women and/or Gender by Students (ROWGS). Often this research is from a senior seminar, independent study, or a joint faculty/student initiative; sometimes it is work that a student has done in a first year seminar or topics course. Formerly known as ROWS, ROWGS is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their hard work, and to introduce faculty and students to the wide range of research on women and gender being done across the campus.

With support from the Women’s Commission and the Women’s and Gender Studies Department, we are convening the symposium in the Stern Great Room at 7 p.m. We will host a pre-symposium dinner at 6 p.m. for participants.

Students who have relevant research to present are urged to submit a one-page abstract of their work to the Women’s and Gender Studies by Friday, March 11. As these projects have originated in different disciplines, the exact format of the abstract will vary, but each should include a basic synopsis of the research question, the method or approach, sources the student used, and a conclusion. Please also indicate the class and professor for whom (or with whom) you did the research. We choose papers based on both their quality and to ensure a representative sample across the disciplines.

Students will be notified of the results of the selection process by Friday, April 1. Kindly contact Professor Amy Farrell , Stephanie Gilmore, Megan Yost , or Susannah Bartlow  if you have questions.
