Dickinson regard teaching throughout the curriculum as one of their fundamental
responsibilities. A liaison librarion is assigned to each First Year Seminar to
work closely with faculty in developing incomin students' basic research skills.
In their role as liaisons to academic departments, librarians also work with
faculty to infuse more advanced information literacy skills into all levels of
study in a specific discipline. They offer students education in the
sophisticated skills and tools they need to access, evaluate, and appropriately
use current and historical information sources in any format. They provide a
variety of tailored, in-class instruction at all levels and in all disciplines
of the college.
Librarians also provide "academic integrity"
instruction and consultations to help students avoid plagiarism.
students need help with a specific assignment, they are encouraged to ask for
the "on call" librarian at the circulation desk or make an appointment for a
consultation with the liaison librarian for their course or academic major.
Because students sometimes hesitate to approach a librarian for research help in
a timely fashion, faculty are encouraged to refer individual students to
librarians for research consultation.
Liaisons and reference service hours
are detailed on the Library's
"Ask a Librarian" page.
