The Department of Military Science (Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps or ROTC) deepens the liberal-arts experience at Dickinson by cultivating the ability to organize, motivate and lead others. First-year and sophomore students may participate in military-science courses without future military obligation. Men and women who choose to continue in and successfully complete the program during their junior and senior years can receive a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, National Guard or Army Reserves upon graduation. They are required to serve from four months to four years in the active Army, depending upon the type of commission.
