LALC majors are strongly encouraged to enrich their understanding of the region by studying in one of Dickinson's programs abroad. We offer a Dickinson program that combines one month in Ecuador and a semester or academic year in Argentina, and a Dickinson partner program in Brazil (semester and academic year).

Dickinson in South America program offers students the unique opportunity to
live and study in two countries—Ecuador and Argentina—during one semester or
the full academic year.
participate in a four-week, intensive course in Cuenca, Ecuador. Cuenca is a
UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in a highland river valley in the Andes,
and students enroll at CEDEI, a multidimensional educational institution. The
course at CEDEI focuses on Spanish language immersion as well as on Ecuadorian
and Andean history and culture (this class transfers as LALC 203/SPAN 252).
students travel to Mendoza, Argentina, where they take a class to reinforce their
Spanish and a class on Argentina’s culture, history, politics, and philosophy (this
class transfers as LALC 204/SPAN 362). Furthermore, students directly enroll in
courses at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (UNCuyo). UNCuyo is a prestigious
university in Argentina with approximately 40,000 students. Students take
classes in the schools of Philosophy and Letters, Political and Social
Sciences, Arts and Design, and Economics. Independent multidisciplinary
institutes offer classes in environmental sciences, earth sciences, energy,
production and labor, basic sciences, etc.

opportunity to participate in several carefully planned excursions in the
regions of Cuenca and Mendoza that supplement the academic curriculum.

Partner Program in Brazil (São Paulo and Salvador)
our partner program in São Paulo, Brazil. Currently, we offer two tracks:
Liberal Arts and Business + Culture
Liberal Arts track is intended for students with at least two years of
college-level Spanish or Intermediate Portuguese (or the equivalent). The
program is affiliated with the Catholic University of São Paulo, and students
have access there to a full range of courses in Latin American studies, social
sciences, and culture and literature. All classes are taught in Portuguese.
During the semester, students also take Portuguese language and Brazilian
Realities classes at CIEE. Enrollment at the university is preceded by an
intensive five-week language and culture program and orientation, and students
have the opportunity to enroll in the program for the fall, spring, or full
Business + Culture track is affiliated with the economics school of the
Fundação Getulio Vargas, one of the most prestigious business schools in Latin
America. This program neither requires previous knowledge of Portuguese nor
Spanish, as students take classes in English with international students.
Students that speak Portuguese fluently have the opportunity to take classes in
Portuguese with Brazilian students. Before the beginning of the semester,
students must enroll in the month-long intensive Portuguese language and
Brazilian culture course, and take a Portuguese language class at CIEE during
the semester. Students have the opportunity to enroll in this program for the
fall, spring, or full academic year.
