While providing language and literature instruction to its majors, Dickinson’s French department has moved beyond traditional French programs in two ways: first, it has revamped its curriculum to focus more on the context of language and French intellectual and cultural life using film, multimedia strategies and other contemporary sources. Second, it explores not only literature produced in France, but the Francophone literature produced by French-speaking countries throughout the world: Africa, Canada and the Caribbean.
