The President’s Commission for Women was established to ensure and publicize Dickinson’s commitment to gender equity in the classroom, on campus, in the broader community and among students, faculty, administrators and staff.

In 2005, the commission launched several working groups, including a gender-climate study group; campus health & safety group; salaries, promotions and gender-equity group; and a women’s center group. Their work has resulted in:

  • A renewed focus on gender climate in the Dickinson campus community
  • The elevation of the women’s studies certificate program to a women’s & gender studies department and major
  • The creation of an institutional Women’s Center.

Today, the commission continues to establish practices that regularly identify and articulate the diverse issues relating to women on campus.
